Founded in 2012, involvement is by ordinary residents and participants from a number of Mill Valley organizations such as the Outdoor Art Club, Mill Valley Rotary, Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Mill Valley StreamKeepers . |
Accomplishments |
Clean Mill Valley, in cooperation with the City of Mill Valley, helped evaluate the number and types of garbage cans in downtown Mill Valley. To reduce litter spillage and distribution by birds, the Public Works Department purchased “Bonnets” to solve the problem. Tamalpais High School now carries litter reminders on their electronic message board and Clean Mill Valley is working with other organizations in the county to display similar messages. Members have worked with the students and the Environmental Studies teacher at Greenwood School to help them engage in civic responsibility with litter and graffiti removal. The students and teacher were instrumental in the success of our Merchant Program that has over 200 businesses enrolled. Merchants pledge to keep their businesses free of litter and train their employees in recycling. Periodic cleanups are conducted by a core group of our members along with others from our community. Many of our members subscribe to our Adopt-a-Spot program, cleaning a particular problem area or even picking up litter on the route they take when walking their dog. |
